Dear Parents:

Welcome to the month of May! As we enjoy this beautiful spring weather we enter a very busy time of the year at Memorial Middle School. Please find listed below upcoming events and activities for this month.

  • Please note that we have a number of planned field trips this month. The dates and destinations of field trips are listed below.

Monday, May 12th  - Grade 6 Integrated Day to Museum of Natural History in New York City
Friday, May 16th – Grade 5 Contemporary Field Trip to Old Sturbridge Village
Wednesday, May 28th – Grade 5 ID Field Trip to Old Sturbridge Village

If your child is participating in any of these field trips please return permission slips as
soon as possible. Thanks for your support.

  • Please note that the District Budget Meeting will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5th at Coginchaug Regional High School. Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 6th from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the following locations.

Durham Residents -  Francis Korn School
Middlefield Residents  -  Middlefield Community Center

  • On Tuesday, May 13th students will be involved in Transition/Step Up Activities. Grade 5 Contemporary Students will meet with sixth grade teachers and Grade 6 students will attend step up activities at Strong Middle School.

Important Notice for Grade 6 Parents – On Monday, May 19th at 7:00 Strong Middle School will host a Parent Orientation meeting. This meeting will provide essential information for parents of incoming seventh grade students. Please attend if your child will be entering seventh grade next year.


  • Our annual Spring Chorus and Band Concert will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Coginchaug Regional High School.  The concert will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Students should report to the high school at 6:15 p.m.

           Attire
    Boys: Black pants and shoes, white shirt and tie
    Girls:  Black skirt or dress, white blouse or shirt.

  • Our next Parent Council meeting will take place on Monday, May 12th in the Media Center at Memorial School. Expected agenda items include the DARE Graduation and officer elections for the 2008-2009 school year. Please attend.
  • Please note that our Dress Code prohibits short shorts, halter-tops and mid drifts. Students are also cautioned not to wear flip-flops. With the warmer weather our building will be air conditioned so for your child’s comfort and safety please encourage appropriate attire.

In closing, please enjoy this beautiful month and share with your child the significance of
the Memorial Day holiday.
