Greetings!
Education at Lyman is a partnership between home and school. There really is a place and a way for all to become active members of the Lyman community! John Lyman Parents Association (JLPA) works closely with staff to provide a well-rounded, rich school experience. Every parent is a member of JLPA simply by being a parent of a John Lyman student. We encourage parents to become as involved in the organization and/or the school as they wish or are able to be. Lyman teachers try to maintain close contact with parents regarding your child's progress. In return, we hope that if there is a time when you have questions or concerns, you will do the same.
A child-centered community of learners, John Lyman School is dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of learning through active exploration of all curricular areas. The Integrated Day Program provides a supportive, stimulating environment in which students learn to take responsibility for decision-making, as well as for their own learning and behavior.
As a H.O.T. (Higher Order Thinking) School, our arts-integrated approach exists in a democratic setting that celebrates the voice of each child. Our weekly assembly reflects authentic learning that is going on in classrooms exhibited through shares by kindergartners through fourth grade. Student hosts introduce each share and the third and fourth grade Tech Crew provides technical support. Every visiting artist and performance reflects our HOT School philosophy. An Interdisciplinary Planning Team (arts integration team) works very hard to see that every residency (HOT or not) is relevant and connected to the curriculum. This approach has been developed through our HOT School involvement and would not exist without our work with HOT Schools.
Our goal is to provide an outstanding educational experience for each child, making this the best year of his/her educational career thus far! Watch our website and check out our Electronic Wednesday Envelope for information about artist residencies, exciting field trips, and the wonderful learning opportunities that are taking place every day in each classroom. I am very excited to be working with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Karen Brimecombe, Principal |
