Korn Cultural Programs

Ben Franklin Assembly — November 30, 2007
benfranklin Ben Franklin appeared at Korn School to present a wonderful assembly on his life as an amazing American, inventor, author, printer, politician and "Founding Father" who inspired young and old alike to be the best they can be. Students participated throughout the assembly.

Soccer Game between Staff & Students
The winning members of the Korn School Intramural Soccer Teams challenged the staff to a game on Friday, November 30th.  The entire school cheered on the teams to a 5 to 5 tied score.

"Special Valentine's Day Lunch"
A very "special" Valentine's Day lunch was celebrated at Korn School. Students dressed up in their Sunday best. Red table clothes covered the tables, candles and confetti decorated each one and live music filled the air. Mr. Fisher, Korn's music teacher, played the piano and Mr. Podgorsek played the viola. Both students and staff enjoyed this very festive occasion.

"Owl Pellets"

Mrs. Klattenberg and Mrs. Martin facilitated  workshops on owl pellets for third graders at Korn School.  Students dissected the pellets, identified the objects and recorded their observations.   Students use this information to understand the life cycle of owls and how they affect a forest eco-system.  Mrs. Oslander's class is busy at work.   

 
"Electricity Safety"

Mr. Czarnecki from Northeast Utilities presented a Electricity Safety Program to the fourth graders at Korn School to enhanced the fourth grade Science Curriculum. Students learn about safety, how electricity works and what is required to make a bulb work.

 
"Electric City"
Staff from Eli Whitney Museum facilitated "Electric City" for the fourth graders at Korn. Students learned about circuits, switches, and what steps are needed to light a bulb. They then where able to build there own lighted structure.
 
"The Old State House"
Fourth graders traveled to the State Capitol and Old State House on Friday, March 28th.  They study Connecticut and its early history in one of their social studies units.  At the Old State House, they learned about the Legend of the Charter Oak. They were then able to help act it out.  Students found this field trip to be both educational and fun.
