Korn Cultural Programs

September 2, 2008 Opening Day
Korn Students and Staff welcomed the school year with a patriotic song and the Pledge of Alliance.  The entire school assembled around the flag pole on a beautiful September morning.

Outdoor Education Team
Marcy Klattenberg and Lorrie Martin are District 13's Outdoor Education Teachers.  Throughout the year they facilitate many activities with both our 3rd and 4th grade classes. Mrs. Klattenberg is teaching a class on Pangaea, when all the continents were one solid mass, using graham crackers, icing and a time line.

Summer Reading
This year Mrs. Sinder challenged the students to increase their summer reading.  The students rose to the occasion and she kept her promise to "kiss a pig".  Farmer Minor and Daisy came to Korn School on September 15th.  Not only did Mrs. Sinder kiss Daisy, but most of the students and staff also kissed her.

Korn School Election

Korn Students participated in the Scholastic News Children's Presidential Election. Students learned all about the voting process through class discussions.  Then a corner of Korn was turned into a private voting booth.  Students registered, marked their ballots and deposited them into a secure box.  Students took this task very seriously.

Students of the Week

Our Students are very special.  Every week classroom teachers randomly select a student of the week.  The student brings in items that are displayed in showcases located in the lobby. It is our hope that children will have the opportunity to make connections with other students and staff who share similar interest, talents and hobbies.

Trout in the Classroom

400 brown trout eggs were successfully delivered to the fish tank in the Library.  Students will be observing and making entries into their Science Journals. In the Spring the baby trout will be released into the brook behind Korn School.

Gingerbread Houses

Many classrooms construct gingerbread houses before the holidays.  Students take great pride designing and decorating their creations.
