math Math in Third Grade

When it comes to math, third-graders hit the ground running when they arrive at Korn at the beginning of the year! Many of the concepts taught during third grade are ones students have been exposed to in previous years. The third grade curriculum both reinforces and expands upon concepts including, but not limited to, graphing, fractions, area, measurement, geometry, and how to solve multi-step application problems. If you ask a third-grader at Korn, many will say the highlight of math is learning multiplication! Students begin to learn and explore multiplication before the Holiday Recess at the end of December and continue to develop their skills throughout the year.

Many families ask how they can help their child succeed in math. The best way families can support their third-grader is to continue practicing math facts at home. By the end of third grade, students are expected to memorize addition and subtraction facts to 18, and multiplication and division facts using 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10. Flash cards are great! There are also a variety of math-related educational websites on the Internet.
