Art Service
Advisor: Jan Wenzel
Students volunteer to work on art projects for the school and the community such as mural painting and poster design.
Cadet Teachers
Advisor: Emily Archer
Students use their unassigned or study hall time to work in 3rd or 4th grade classrooms. As they assist teachers and students, student cadets are able to gain a glimpse at what a career in teaching might be like.
Campus Store
Advisor: Ted Lombardo
The school store sells a limited number of items such as Coginchaug t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. Contact Mr. Lombardo for availability.

School (Student) Council
Advisor: Nancy Alberico

This 12 member committee is responsible for addressing student issues that arise throughout the year, submitting proposals to the administration for changing a school policy or rule, and most importantly, setting up and running the American Red Cross Blood Drive during the spring. Students must be members of Class Council in order to be elected to School Council.

Students petition their classmates to receive 30 signatures to be eligible for membership in their class council. Class councils then vote for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer to work with their advisor and council members to plan and carry out the major fundraisers and service projects. Homecoming Dance, Junior/Senior Prom, and school dances are part of the individual councils responsibilities.
Diversity Club

Students discuss and promote awareness and acceptance of diverse cultures and issues through a variety of activities.

EDGE
Advisors: Elizabeth Welsh and

EDGE is a school club that empowers members and other youth by providing education, youth education, youth development skills and training in the following areas: leadership, safe decisions, substance use prevention and violence prevention.

ECO (Environmental Club)
Advisor: Susan Michael

ECO (Environmental Coginchaug Organization) is made up of a group of students concerned about the environment and willing to work to improve it.  Activities include:  two or more road cleanups of the school complex, recycling beverage bottles at the Durham Fair, sponsoring the Hunger Awareness Banquet to raise funds for hunger relief locally, statewide, and internationally, Earth Day outreach projects such as Environmental grocery bag decorating at Korn School, and others. 

French Honor Society

Spanish Honor Society
Advisor: Marilyn Horn

The Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) and the French Honor Society (Société Honoraire de Francais) are national academic and service organizations that recognize students who have excelled in Spanish or French and have demonstrated high interest in their language classes as well as exemplary character and citizenship in the CRHS community.  Students in both chapters participate in a variety of service projects including tutoring throughout the year. 

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
Advisor: Susan Wagemaker

FBLA is a Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America, a nonprofit organization for students that provides them an opportunity to learn firsthand about the business community as they develop vocational competencies that will enable them to enter careers in business.  Activites in Coginchaug's FBLA include community service, state and national competitions, guest speakers, field trips, social and fundraising events.  Members do not have to be enrolled in a business course, but an interest in future business careers and studies is recommended.

Helping Hands
Advisor: Robin Fox

Coginchaug's community service club welcomes students to join as we find projects, both local and global, to become involved with on both a short and/or long term basis.

High School Bowl
Advisor: Michael Klimas

Coginchaug's academic team - a “varsity sport of the mind!”   From October to April teams from schools in the Shoreline Conference compete in the regular season; in May there is a Shoreline Tournament.  To date, team Coginchaug is a seven-time Tournament Finalist (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007) and two-time Shoreline Champions (2001, 2006)!  Practices are held weekly, and interested students are always welcome.

JCL (Junior Classical League)
Advisor: Mary Sersanti
A Latin club whose purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity.
Mentoring Program
Advisor: Kathy Bottini

Peer mentors provide support in a variety of ways to freshmen, new students and younger students throughout the district.

Model United Nations
Advisor: Kelly Falvey

Members of Model UN enjoy traveling, researching, debating and keeping informed of international current events.  With their peers from around the world, Coginchaug members put in long hours at conferences where high school students simulate UN committee meetings in an attempt to solve realistic world problems.

National Honor Society
Advisor: Donna Mattei

The National Honor Society is an organization whose purpose is to create  enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to do service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in high school students.

National Ocean Science Bowl
Advisor: Lorrie Martin

National Ocean Science Bowl (NOSB) offers academic competitions for small teams of students with a strong interest in the marine sciences.  Connecticut and Rhode Island teams compete in the regional Quahog Bowl at the University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay Campus each spring.

 

Newspaper (Devil's Advocate)

Students write, edit, and prepare for publishing the school newspaper, Devils Advocate, in the TOWN TIMES. Students also publish an online version.

Pep Band

Team and School Spirit are the driving factors for Pep Band students who play at football and basketball games throughout season.
Read and Lead
Advisor: Becca Anderson
Students volunteer to participate in a mentoring and tutoring program for Korn School to help elementary students improve their academic skills.

Scholarship Committee (Student)
Advisor: Nancy Alberico

Student members attend monthly meetings with the adult committee members. They set up and work at the Banana Booth at the Durham Fair as well as the Scholarship Ball. Students are members for all four years of high school.

Senior Washington D.C. Trip
Advisor: Kathy Zygmont

Join your fellow seniors for four fun filled days touring our nation’s capitol. The itinerary includes visits to many of the monuments, several museums, a tour of the Capitol building, and a show at the Kennedy Center. This is a fantastic opportunity that any senior does not want to miss.  

TV Broadcast  Club
Advisor: Robin Fox

The Television Production Club offers students the opportunity to learn the basic skills of digital video production to create programs.  Students who participate may have the opportunity to join the television production class on field trips to area TV studios and shows.

Yearbook
Advisors: Candy Brickley and Marisa Thurston

Students plan, design and create on computer the CRHS  yearbook Inferno. The yearbook committee meets in the evening throughout the school year.    Students sell ads to local businesses (giving them useful experiences in dealing with the public) and plan their marketing strategy for yearbook sales as well.
