Second Grade Work

Brewster second graders made face-to-face body masks from a favorite story that they recently read. The students presented the character study to the class speaking as if they were the character. Pictured are the characters Annie from the book Dolphins at Daybreak, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and King Arthur from King Arthur.

The Bear

by Patrick in Mrs. Ghoreyeb's class - January

“I wonder if I will see a bear,” I said to my mom. Then we left the log cabin and hiked into the Adirondack woods. In the distance I spied a cave. I cupped my ear and heard footsteps. I got a strong whiff of a foul smelling animal. I ran my hand along the mossy cave and realized that it was freezing. Just then I thought I spied a black bear so I told my mother.

She said, “There is no bear.” Suddenly I heard a rustle.

“Could there really be a bear?” I asked myself. All of a sudden, I heard something breathing on my back. Slowly I turned around and in front of me stood a bear. In a split second I sprinted away from the beast. Faster then a jack rabbit, the animal chased after me.

A moment later I was up in a tree calling for help, but no one heard me. Instantly the black bear started to climb up the tree and I hid. Five seconds later the bear was almost half way to me. I climbed up higher and so did the bear. Just then I felt so scared that my knees were shaking and I literally jumped off the tree. Instantly, I climbed to the top of the maple tree, my legs and arms ached and I was panting like crazy. Just then, I heard a strange sound. I turned around and looked back for a moment. It was tricked, but when the sound stopped the black bear concentrated on me. When it looked up I had already jumped down and ran to hide in the bushes.

Suddenly, I heard my mom yelling for me. The animal was so startled that it leaped down from the maple tree and ran away. Instantly I got off of my knees and ran to the cave where my mom was and we left the forest. I will always remember this day because my mom saved my life. I wish that I will never see another bear again because I don’t want to be chased again.

Mrs. Ghoreyeb's Funny April Fools Day News

Mrs. Ghoreyeb's class wrote some humorous April Fools Day jokes. The students had a great time reading their stories to the people they "spoofed." Take a look at their creativity.

Thanksgiving

by Owen (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Mmmmmm! Mmmmmm! My gram's turkey roasting smells so good," I murmured out loud. My eyes widened as I spotted the vast pumpkin pie. "Yum," I said. The air was filled with the smell of nice, juicy cheese cake. My mouth was watering more and more. I felt the sweet cold ice cream on my tongue as I scooped it into my mouth.

Thanksgiving

by Pierce (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

I rushed into my Grandma's kitchen with a big woooosh when I smelled her pumpkin pie. My tongue shot out when I spotted a juicy and ginormous turkey. The aroma of the loaf of cornbread filled most of the air. My mouth watered just thinking about a colossal, double decker chocolate cake. Sizzle, sizzle went the beans popping in a pot.

Thanksgiving

by Julianna (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Grandma's famous stuffing is ready," mom shouted from the bottom of the stairs.

"Oh good," I exclaimed. The air was filled with the aroma of delicious turkey shaped cookies. I closed my eyes and could almost taste the mouth watering apple pie. It was hard to ignore the sound of the children screaming, "When do we eat?"

I glanced around at the splendid mashed potatoes. I could not wait to eat it all.

by Page (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Yum, yum, yum, Grammy's apple pie smells delicious!" I stated as I walked into her cozy house. I jumped for joy when I spied the juicy turkey on grammy's dining room table. As I tasted the fresh buttery mashed potatoes my taste buds were tickled. In the distance I could hear the bubbling water cooking the creamy gravy in the pot. Ding, ding, ding went the oven when the sweet apple pie was done baking.

Thanksgiving

by Isabel (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Yum, yum!" I shouted as I spied the delicious Christmas tree cookies that mom displayed on our dining room table. I jumped for joy as I noticed my favorite food, turkey with mashed potatoes! I cupped my ear and heard the sizzling pot that laid on the stove. The aroma of the juicy turkey with gravy that sat upon a platter filled the air around me. My mouth watered just thinking about the sweet soft cookies that I'm going to eat for dessert!

Thanksgiving Dinner at Grandma's House

by Paris (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Hurray, we're at grandmas!' I declaired as I jumped through the front door. The aroma of the immense turkey tickled my nose as I approached the warm kitchen. I got a good whiff of Linda's turkey and star sugar cookies. My eyes widend as I spotted her lawa red cranberry sauce. Off in the distance I heard people saying grace before dinner. My mouth watered just looking at the petite crescent rolls sitting on the dining room table. "Time to eat! Yeah." I shouted out loud.

Thanksgiving Dinner

by Carmine (Mrs. Lundt's Class)

"Yum, yum." I smelled the colossal pot of sweet potatoes. "When's dinner?" I exclaimed as I walked into Aunt Carol's warm kitchen. I looked closely at the vast juicy hot turkey as my eyes popped out of my head. I shivered when I spotted the steaming applie pie. My taste buds were cheering for it. The air was filled with the aroma of baked cookies about to go into my watering mouth When I rubbed my fingers across the smooth pumpkin pie it seemed very, very nice.

Fishing for Santa

by Carter (Mrs. Ghoreyeb's Class)

"Help, help," went the fat man in the red suit, stuck in my chimney. I looked at his black boots dangling down the chimney all of a sudden. I had an idea!

First I took a ladder and climbed on the roof with a fishing rod. I cast down the chimney and hooked the hook on his big puffy suit. I tried to reel him up but the rod broke. "Shoot," I said.

Next, I took a toilet plunger and tied a stick to it. I sent it down the chimney. It landed on his head. A heavy wind came and I dropped the plunger down the chimney. I felt bad for Santa Claus.

I finally took a pin and poked him in the butt. "Ouch," he said. He wriggled and squirmed. Suddenly he came down with a thud.

"Thank you," said Santa Claus to me. He asked if I could help him deliver the presents.

"Yes," I said. I will always remember when Santa got stuck in my chimney. I hope I will see him again next year. I will always remember when I went fishing for Santa Claus.

Lost

by Will (Mrs. Ghoreyeb's Class)

"Are we lost?" I asked.

"Yes," said my dad.

"What are we going to do?" I asked as I was walking through the forest.

I felt the wind blowing the leaves in my face. I looked closely at the bumpy trees. In the distance I could hear the birds chirping. I ran my hand along the worn out trees. All of a sudden I realized we were lost.

First, I tried to keep going on but there was too much stuff blocking the opening to the forest. I tried to go through, but trees were blocking me. I felt sad that we were getting blocked by trees.

Next, I looked for the marks on the trees, but I could not find any. I felt scared that we were trapped.

Finally, I tried to go back the way where I started, then I would get out of here. I turned around and saw the opening of the woods. I felt excited that we were finally out. I wish we never got lost. I will always remember the time I went hiking and got lost.
