Brewster School’s (CT) Environment

Trent School’s (OR) Environment

In Connecticut, we have four seasons. It is hot in the summer, cool in the fall, cold in the winter, and warm in the spring. In the fall, our leaves change colors. The leaves fall off the trees in late October. This fall, it was warmer than usual and most of the leaves fell of the trees in November. We found out that in Oregon, they also have four seasons. The seasons are not as different as ours, though, and they seem to blend together and have a wider range of temperatures.  The weather is very different  if you live in the North or the South in Oregon. We found out that they have a lot of rain in Oregon and also a lot of oak trees.

Comparing the Two Schools
When we compared the squares of life at the two schools, we found a lot of similarities. Both schools had flying insects, beetles, worms, and spiders. Our squares both had trees, dirt and grass. The non-living things we both found were paper and plastic.  There were some differences, too. We had small bushes in our squares. The students at Trent found a snail, a frog, mud, and a piece of metal.

Reasons for Similarities and Differences

We think that Oregon is very similar to Connecticut. One of the reasons we think this is because Oregon is also located on the coast like Connecticut. Oregon is on the West Coast of the United States near the Pacific Ocean and Connecticut is on the East Coast near the Atlantic Ocean. Also, Oregon is at about the same latitude as Connecticut. This is probably why our environments are similar.

Our Conclusions

We really enjoyed working on this project. We found out a lot about our own fall environment and the living and non-living things in our school yard. We were able to study the trees and leaves in our environment, the weather, and use our map skills to locate Connecticut, Oregon, and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
