Brewster Loves to Read Night 2008

Brewster Loves To Read Night was a huge success. The classrooms were full of children in their pajamas enjoying stories. Thanks to our many volunteers for making the evening a success. Special thanks to Vicki Cummings and the Brewster Reading Team for planning such a wonderful night. Brewster Loves to Read

To celebrate Read Across America, Brewster Loves to Read night has become a tradition for children and their families. Pajama clad children along with their families listen to special books chosen by many community volunteers. A special thank you goes out to the Reading Department for organizing the event. Thank you also to the volunteers who enjoyed the experience of reading to a child.

Letters From Soldiers

Students from several of the second grade classrooms sent letters to soldiers before the holidays. Many students received letters thanking them for their kind thoughts and drawings. Click on each of the links below to view three letters that were received by our second graders.

Brewster School Winter Coat Drive

The Brewster School students and their families have collected 180 coats to benefit the Bridgeport Hospital Children First program. Thanks to the generous donations, we were able to warm many inner-city children and their families.

Volunteers Step It Up

Mrs. Archer's second grade class recently had some parent volunteers who came in to help the children make some fun holiday projects. The parents brought in supplies to make ornaments for the children to take home. They also did a brief lesson on trees,  relating to second grade's study of plants.

Parents are a vital part of Brewster and we encourage parents to come to our Volunteer Orientation in the fall to "become one of our family."

Senior citizens take an active role with Brewster

students. On special days, we have Durham and Middlefield seniors come to help with special projects. The children love having the seniors come into the classroom and help.

Brewster and Korn students also have a great time connecting with the seniors by wishing the senior citizens a happy birthday. The students make a special phone call to sing to the seniors on their birthday.

The Riverview Toy Drive

The toy drive to benefit the children of Riverview Hospital was held once again at Brewster and Korn Schools. Thanks to Ruth Beames, who coordinates the annual event, the families of Brewster students sent in over 350 toys. Thank you to all of the families who participated.

Math and Science Nights

Each year, the teachers and staff organize a special evening event for students and their families to explore and challenge themselves through math or science. Science night is and exciting time for students to visit a variety of stations to try hands-on experiments.

On math night students calculate, predict, solve word problems, go on math scavenger hunts and make projects to take home.

The evening is attended by most of the families at Brewster along with siblings and friends.
