Certificatione

All certified staff are responsible for maintaining and monitoring their own records related to certification. It is imperative that certified staff know what type of certificate they have (initial, provisional or professional), the date of expiration of the current certificate, the steps that need to be taken to move to the next level of certification (initial to provisional and provisional to professional), and the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for maintaining specific professional certificates. Note that only holders of professional certificate must accumulate CEU's for continued certification. However, as part of their contractual obligation to the District, all teachers must attend scheduled professional development days. Part-time teachers should consult the District Professional Development Guidelines to determine their professional development responsibilities.

Each individual holding a professional certificate must maintain a file of CEU records, including CEU's earned both within and outside of the District. The Connecticut State Department of Education conducts random audits of CEU records; individuals may be asked by the CSDE to submit a full file of CEU's earned during a given five-year period. CEU records are maintained by Susan Gaudreau in Central Office ONLY for activities offered within the District.

Detailed information about certification can be found at the Connecticut State Department of Education website. Forms for certification renewal can be accessed and downloaded. The most frequently used forms appear below. These forms must be printed using a color printer.
