Over the past dozen years Regional District 13 has worked very
hard to develop and implement quality curriculum in every subject
area. As with all aspects of the educational program, our beliefs
about curriculum align with our Strategic Plan:
- Curriculum should encompass every grade level at which the
particular discipline is taught. Most of our curriculum guides
represent kindergarten through grade twelve.
- Curriculum is WHAT we teach. Each curriculum guide delineates
what students should know and be able to do. We do not include
instructional methods in our curriculum guides.
- Assessment and curriculum go hand in hand in order to ensure
that our students learn what they are taught. Our progress reports
and report cards in grades K-8 include student progress toward
important curriculum benchmarks in each subject area.
- Quality professional development is necessary when new curriculum
is being implemented.
Our Curriculum Management Cycle includes the evaluation, revision,
and implementation of curriculum. Each curriculum is reviewed every
five to seven years. During the 2006-2007 school year we are evaluating
and revising our language arts curriculum and implementing new
curricula in science and mathematics.
District curriculum guides are available for
review at Central Office, in the Curriculum Office at Brewster
School, and in the town libraries. We will also be posting our
curriculum guides to the District website in two formats: by discipline
and by grade. Once this process is complete you will be able to
review an entire subject area K-12, or you will be able to review
the total curriculum for a particular grade level. |
