Job opportunities in Regional School District 13 are divided into two categories: certified and non-certified. Certified positions include teachers, administrators, and professional support staff, i.e. counselors, psychologists, library/media specialists, etc. Non-certified staff include maintenance, secretarial, food service, and paraprofessionals.

Position Description:  Regional School District 13 is seeking a .6 FTE certified preschool special education teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.  The position requires a 4 day schedule (Monday-Thursday).

 

Qualifications:

  • Proper certification as a preschool special education teacher  (112 or 113 certification)
  • Experience in providing specialized instruction for preschool students with diverse disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) and ability to align these with lesson design, instruction and assessment
  • Effective behavioral management techniques to support the needs of preschool students
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and implement STEAM learning activities for preschool students
  • Ability to collect, manage and analyze data to measure student progress and inform instruction
  • Experience in formal evaluation and assessment practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents
  •  Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills, a high degree of flexibility and initiative

Position Description:  Regional School District 13 is seeking a full-time certified Special Education Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.

Qualifications:
 - Proper certification as a special education teacher  (065 or 165)
 - Experience in working with diverse disabilities
 - Strong behavioral management skills, including experience with creation of functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans
 - Experience in providing specialized reading instruction using Orton-Gillingham based practices
 - Ability to collect, manage and analyze data to measure student progress and inform instruction
 - Experience in evaluation and assessment practices

HIGH SCHOOL

Position: Long Term Substitute Teacher – 0.6 High School Biology/General Science

 

 Qualifications: Certification by the State of Connecticut -  030, 034 Endorsements

 

 Reports To: Building Principal, Coginchaug Regional High School

 

 Position Description:  Regional School District 13 is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher for a 0.6 High School Biology/General Science Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

 

 - Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

 - Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of

   students.

 - Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate

   supervisor.

 - Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

 - Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for

   all lessons and communicates these objectives to students.

 - Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and

   capabilities of the student groups involved.

 - Motivates students effectively.

 - Communicates effectively with students, staff and parents.

 - Strives to implement the District’s mission, goals and objectives outlined in the District’s Strategic Plan.

 - Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

 - Provides appropriate learning experiences for students with special needs.

 - Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

 - Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative

   regulations.

 - Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for

   the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a  

   fair and just manner.

 - Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the

   instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

 - Plans and supervises meaningful assignments for teacher assistants and works with the administration to

   evaluate their job performance.

 - Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

 - Follows the policies and procedures of the school district and state.

 - Participates in professional (growth) development activities professional growth.

 - Assumes responsibilities outside of the classroom as they relate to the school.
