Job opportunities in Regional School District 13 are divided into two categories: certified and non-certified. Certified positions include teachers, administrators, and professional support staff, i.e. counselors, psychologists, library/media specialists, etc. Non-certified staff include maintenance, secretarial, food service, and paraprofessionals.

Position: Special Education Teacher Assistant, Memorial Middle School (Grades 4-6)

Position Available: SY 2017-2018

Reports to: Building Principal/Pupil Personnel Director

Primary Function: To assist teachers in achieving teaching objectives by working directly with identified students. Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications: Associates Degree or 60 credits required, or successful completion of paraprofessional assessment. Candidate should demonstrate the skills and ability to work with students with identified needs, including communication and language, academic and life skills. In particular, the candidate should have experience working with students who have significant behavioral and cognitive needs. Must be able to implement behavioral strategies and interventions under the direction of a supervising teacher as well as collect program data. Responsibilities may also include toileting, assisting with feeding and lifting in addition to physical management training. Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and problem-solving skills as well as be able to work as part of a team and receive on-going training. Proficient computer skills also required.

Salary and Terms of Employment: 32.5 hours per week, 5 days per week. Salary: $17.00-$22.37/hour

MIDDLE SCHOOL

 

Position: Long Term Substitute, Middle School ELA Teacher (Full-time) at Frank Ward Strong Middle School

Position Available:  December 2017- June 2018

Qualifications:

  • Certification; 015 or 215 
  • Knowledge of and training in Columbia Teachers College Writing Workshop (preferred, not required)
  • Familiarity in PowerSchool/PowerTeacher (preferred, not required)

Position Overview: Regional School District 13 is seeking a full-time Long Term Substitute Teacher for Middle School English Language Arts from December through June 2018 (end of school year).  The teacher’s role will be to deepen students’ understanding of the English language through reading, writing and speaking. The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative grade-level teaching team, will participate as a member of the language arts professional learning community, and will work closely with colleagues to assess and evaluate student data to support and guide student learning outcomes.

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Teaching all facets of reading, writing, grammar, usage and mechanics
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

Position Overview:  Frank Ward Strong Middle School is seeking a full-time, Long Term Substitute Health Teacher from late December through June 2018 (end of the 2017-2018 SY).  The successful candidate will implement all facets of the 7th and 8th grade health curriculum in compliance with Connecticut’s Healthy Balanced Curriculum Framework.  Units of study include Decision Making, Stress Management, Substance Abuse Prevention, CPR/FIRST Aid, and Nutrition.  Attendance at daily meetings is required.  Additional duty coverage will be determined by school administration.

HIGH SCHOOL

Position: Physical Education Teacher, Long Term Substitute – Coginchaug Regional High School

Position Available:  November 2017-January 2018

Reports to: Building Principal

Primary Function:  Maintain current physical education program rigor as a long term substitute teacher; to ensure the physical education curriculum promotes a physically active lifestyle; develops cooperation, teamwork, and sportsmanship; and provides ample opportunity for students to engage in regular physical activity that promotes growth and development.

Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications:  Current Physical Education PK-12 Endorsement (044)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Design, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on state standards
  • Ensure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all students
  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness and individual, dual and team sports
  • Guide students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior
  • Maintain records of individual student achievement and evaluating students on a continuous basis
  • Meet and instructing assigned classes at designated times
  • Prepare for classes and maintaining written evidence of preparation
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, school board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Work with other members of the physical education staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods

Primary Function: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.

Job Responsibilities (Include but not limited to):  

1.    Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent individual and team achievement in the sport involved.

2.    Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.

3.    Works closely with the athletic director in scheduling interscholastic contests.

4.    Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.

5.    Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.

6.    Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

7.    Seeks to improve the overall quality of the program of the sport involved.

8.    Supports and promotes the District’s Core Ethical Values with students, colleagues and parents.
